The home of Craft Beers &
Heavy Metal Music
It all started when…
When I was 18, living in the UK my brother and I decided to brew a batch of homebrew. I remember it tasted like dishwater so I thought to myself, I better concentrate on something I might be good at so let’s do the music thing.
The next 15 years after that involved relentless gigs, albums, travelling, writing music, festivals and then a snap decision to move to Oz after my last band split.
Then the Earl of Leicester in Parkside, Adelaide came into my life. Yes another pub, BUT this one was different. It reminded me of the old English style pubs with banter, mates but most importantly it had embraced this new movement called CRAFT BEER.
This pretty much changed my life. Apart from spending a lot of time drinking we all talked about beer, and breweries and how you make beer. So I thought let’s give this beer making a try again. So my friend Dave and I bought an extract kit and made our first pale ale. “Poets Day Pale”. It actually tasted pretty darn good.
So when a brewing course at TAFE came up I jumped at the chance. Run by the SA beer guru Stephen Nelson, it was pretty scientific and I had no idea what the hell I was doing. I enjoyed it and made some good mates, however, I thought mmmmm it’s a little too scientific this beer lark so maybe I’ll just drink it instead.
Fast forward about 4 years and I was still trying to figure out what I loved doing. The only thing that seemed to stick with me was brewing. I had switched to all grain brewing and made some good beers and threw away a lot of crap beer as well. Undeterred, I was brewing almost every week and even won my first gold medal at the Robe Town beer festival.
Then 2 years ago I stupidly decided to do a brewing diploma with the IBD in London. I seriously underestimated the amount of work and science involved, BUT worked hard and was proud to pass my first year. The course has completely changed how I make beers and helps me to improve every day.
Winning 12 awards including a State medal has given me the confidence to push forward and improve and bring my beers to the masses.
So fast forward to now (2024) and we have left Lonsdale and are working hard to hopefully open a cellar door in the Glenelg area in Adelaide for the community to have as a place for fun and mate-ship and for everyone to combine their passion of beer and music.
Cheers
